Let me ask you a question. What if you add face yoga to your beauty routine?
Most of us have been led to believe that botox and even surgical lifts to the eyes, lips, and the whole face are the real answer to looking younger.

This was after & before I began my Face Yoga Method Certification.
These procedures have become so common that your eyes automatically can see “the work” on another person. The creativity can be there, but for most, the plumped up face on an aging woman doesn’t match the rest of her body. Lifts have gotten better and aesthetic doctors are becoming more artistic with structuring the work around each unique face and bone structure. However, if you are like me, you may question the long-term effects—on your skin, your facial structure, and your overall well-being.
What if there is a better way to look fantastic as you get older? What if there is a better way to engage with yourself about how you feel about getting older and your appearance?
The real truth that popular media isn’t sharing with you.
Look, these are common topics with women 40+. I know this because I am in my mid-50s now and have heard women of all lifestyles (natural, glamorous, athletic, beleaguered, pretty, unappealing, and every other kind of woman you can imagine) seriously discuss the options of:
- Fillers
- Injections
- Face/Eye/Lip/Neck Lift
- Cheek Implants
- Nose Job
- Ear Tucks
Here are my thoughts about why intelligent and dim women, alike, look to the “quick fix” to have someone else restructure their appearance to reflect an “update” or a “new look” with medical esthetic approaches. With some of the first signs of aging begin to reveal themselves on your face, it’s easy to feel like you’re beginning to not look like yourself. It isn’t what you are used to seeing in the mirror. The medical esthetic path has been normalized and is offered at a price which many professional women can pay.
And the reality is fillers and implants can plump you up. Injections can smooth fine lines almost instantly. Surgery can lift your face higher than you can imagine. You can even alter your nose and ears!. However, these procedures come with more than just a price tag.

Here’s the thing –
I am sharing this with you because I have consulted with women who have had botched face, eye, and lip lifts. It happens. I’ve worked with some who had lip injections and then the skin is floppy after the injection filler migrates away from injection site or is simply metabolized by the body and disappears after a few weeks or months.
No matter what action you take, you still need to sustain, maintain, and re-build it. For those who can sustain such maintenance, you will watch it deflate or re-wrinkle.
⬆️ This can do a number on your self-image, confidence, and mental health. Who you are used to seeing in the mirror is compromised when you do invasive treatments at the hand of another’s vision of who you are.
What another sees in you may not be your vision.
The artist of your new face is someone who most likely does not really know you and is offering a technique they have learned to do in a specific way. This is why a lot of the work that you notice on people, the kind that is “obvious” like trout-pout, drastic eye-pulling surgeries, and cheek implants look the way they do. A person is wearing the technique, and the doctor just wasn’t creative with the person’s bone structure, and the tissues lying atop the structure.
What about botox and other muscle relaxers?
Injectable medicine to numb the muscles in your face so they don’t move as much can yield less muscle movement. These kinds of solutions will freeze your face. However, if you stop using these muscles they weaken and atrophy. This can lead to sagging muscles and skin when the medicine is metabolized in your body. Your wrinkling may look different than before, in not a good way. To prevent wrinkling, you may find that you have an “addiction” to the feeling of being numb and also the appearance of numbness and lack of movement.
And while many people do this, there are side effects that can vary from allergic reactions to some downtime with swelling, bruising, inflammation at injection site, and even nerve damage or facial asymmetries.
What about fillers?
Filling your face with matter that is foreign to you and lives in your face until your body metabolizes it is a tricky approach, especially for anyone over the age of 40. Plumping up areas where you’ve lost volume in your face may not be accepted by your body, especially if you have sensitivities, which are common for anyone in perimenopause.

Areas of usual concern to be remedied: cheeks, under eye, and lips. Adding fillers to these tender areas can be alternatively remedied with toning he facial muscles and improving circulation to the face. It is quite profound how well face yoga can uplift these areas of concern, especially when you add a dynamic approach including, facial massage, as well as tools like gua sha and kansa wand.
Here is the thing – over time, fillers can migrate to other areas of the face and body, and eventually will need to be metabolized systemically, unnecessary taxing your liver and kidney. Additionally, migrating fillers they can create lumpiness, swelling, and a “stock” appearance of overfilling and creating an unusual look that doesn’t look like you.
When that happens, women may experience:
- Unnecessary stress and internalized thoughts of not identifying with their appearance.
- Overstretched skin that will be difficult to correct without the continuous cycle of filling with foreign matter.
- There may be a feeling of extra weight in the face with the new addition of foreign matter in the body.
Listen, all of the above are counter to the youthful state you are looking to create in your experience.
What about surgical solutions?
Surgical procedures are the oldest invasive treatment for women who want external support to “fix” the face. While these procedures continue to evolve and become simpler, remember that your face is being cut and lifted to look (and feel) tighter. This is a harsh activity you put yourself through.
Optional surgeries like this expose you to vulnerability and potential health challenges of infection and down time. I have worked with women who didn’t heed their doctor’s advice and were moving around too soon, creating blunders with their recovery and even popped stitches that were irreparable. Misshapen spots are difficult to fix without another surgery!
Initially, those who do this with success may enjoy the effects. However, over time, you will still age, and the facial changes will continue to evolve. It doesn’t stop the aging process. You will most likely find yourself in a cycle of wanting more procedures. Then you are, again, exposing yourself to dangerous infections, and the necessity to rely on someone else to beautify you!
I share all of this with gentle love for the beauty of your natural face. There is another way….
Short-term results may be desired. But what if you could easily experience long-lasting results with a lower investment of time and money so you can enjoy:
- Plumped cheeks & lips
- Lifted eyes
- Smooth forehead
- Slimmer nose
Adjusting your mindset about what is natural and possible for you may reveal the most notable enhancements you can make that are lasting with daily practice.
Listen there is a better way, lovely!
A Natural Alternative to Invasive Procedures: Dynamic Face Yoga!
Face yoga, gua sha, kansa wand, and facial massage done in a dynamic way can bring you similar results to expensive and invasive procedures that many can’t sustain in the time and financial investments.

Discover the evolving science behind face yoga!
Doctors are studying and revealing face yoga to be an effective way to lift, sculpt, and tone the skin and tissues of the face.
Check out this 2018 study published in JAMA Dermatology found that women who practiced a few minutes of facial exercises daily for 20 weeks looked an average of three years younger. Many.
There are other studies being done right now and science will continue to reveal the circulatory benefits of enhancing the body’s vascular system, which is currently being studied by the Veteran’s Association.
Here’s the thing – lifting and toning the face naturally from the inside out has more benefits than just improved appearance, sculpted features, and lifted skin.
Why Face Yoga Is Better Than Invasive Cosmetic Procedures
Face Yoga is a series of intentional and targeted facial exercises designed to tone the muscles beneath your skin, just like a fitness routine, but for your face.
- Targets the root cause of facial aging by strengthening weakened muscles beneath the skin
- Improves circulation and oxygenation to enhance skin tone and restore natural volume
- Holistic reduction of puffiness by supporting lymphatic drainage
- Tension release in the jaw, brow, and neck—often responsible for expression lines
- Provides results that look natural because they ARE natural
- Supports your facial health for the long term, without needles, risks, or downtime
If you are reading this and thinking…
“What if this is just a trend?”
“What if I do this and it exacerbates my fine lines and wrinkles?
“Is face yoga safe?”
“I don’t have time for all that I do right now. How can I add another routine to my day?”
These are questions that my clients ask me. If you also are thinking about these kinds of questions as you are reading this, you are not alone!
