This time of year gets a little murky for me. I begin that seasonal transition of the dog days of summer. Everywhere becomes hot and humid. Hurricanes are currently happening around the world and affecting my home base in San Francisco, too. Humidity brought spores into my home to steadfastly remind us that Autumn is still on its way!

My skin reacts to this kind of weather and I also tend to sleep more poorly when it is warm. I like snuggling under the covers. This may be one of the reasons why I enjoy the cool coastal climate of the San Francisco lifestyle.

With my skin veering toward an oily nature, the conflict happens when hot humidity tends to bring on sweating, which clogs my pores. I’ve added an addition of misting my face to wick away the sweat between skin care washings. It’s kind of all I can do. I also wear a hat and forgo my ILIA tinted moisturizer (which I love), and sunscreen too! I know.. that isn’t great. However, I am committed to my wide brim hat, and wear sunscreen all other times.

How do you cope with spikes in heat and humidity?

I ask because it affects everyone differently.

Find below some tips and ways to adapt when the hot and muggy weather of late summer days not only tax your body’s thermoregulation, but also can wreak havoc on your skin.

Adapt with your skin care.

I am highlighting products from which I am a partner affiliate. I do this because I believe in these companies and their products.

Hydrate with Water

Misting the face helps to clear sweat out of the pores naturally. It can benefit anyone with large pores, to offer a little water movement on the skin so sweat may not dry and stick into the pores so easily. Find a few products that I think are really special and want you to know about these:

Virya Toning Spray by Surrasa offers Ayurvedic herbs blended in a formulation that includes uplifting spice notes to both wake you up and clear oily skin! Use code Faceyoga10.

Rose Toner Spray by Blue Beautifly includes a simple recipe of rose flower water and grape alcohol. The highest vibrating flower on the planet combined with pore reducing zip of grape alcohol hydrates, cools, and tightens the skin! Use code Beautify10.

Blue Light Toning Mist by ILIA Beauty is often sold out. It is designed to defend the skin from pollutants like blue light exposure and has citric acid, sea water, and aloe to tighten pores and cool you down!

Beautify with hydration on the outside to soothe the skin and prevent flare ups! As the skin responds to the heat, eating cooler foods, and the flux of seasonal change begins, attending to our skin with some attention can be helpful. Most likely in a month, we’ll have windy and cooler weather (if you are in the Northern Hemisphere). That is a pretty quick change. So now is the time to give yourself some extra self-care!

Nourish on the inside.

Take time to hydrate and cleanse the body naturally. Drink lots of water and replenish the cells of the body that need extra hydration to flush out the toxins which the sweat may not be eliminating. As the seasons change, the body become taxed and it can be such that we have digestive problems, or signs and symptoms of some other malaise. This is a natural time of year for these things to kick up and then become a full on allergy or illness in autumn.

Try these simple ways to hydrate during late summer & early autumn:

Drink lots of water.

Eat end of summer melons, juicy stone fruits.

Create a green smoothie for yourself. At this time of year I add these items. coconut water, seasonal produce like collard greens, juicy melon, chia seeds, avocado, and maybe a banana. Let me know if you would like to try my prebiotic and protein supplement that I add, as well. This helps to boost my digestion during this seasonal change time and I just love the flavors! It is perfect for kids, too!

Enjoy soups. It may sound counter-intuitive to eat soup at this time of year. However, it can help you sweat and relieve the body of toxins. Also, you can enjoy a cool soup like gazpacho to enjoy your extra warm summer days!

Make some iced tea! Enjoy the magical cool nature of herbal tea over ice and feel the body respond to the nature of the herbs. Join me in all of my channels in September to learn more about herbal actions for the body! If you haven’t already, download the Herbal Energies pocket guide to apply the principles today.

Enjoy a salad! Crunchy crisp lettuces abound right now. Greens in general are growing wildly. Any green offers robust nourishment, cleansing, and clearing for the digestion. Take care in eating the stems so you cultivate your own prebiotic experience in your body!!!!

Dip into an ice bath! A trend for a while and done for time immemorial in cold climates, a restorative cold bath rejuvenates the nervous system, which can go a little haywire during the heat. Anyone with auto-immune disorders may benefit from the holistic benefits of a dip in cold water, be it in the wild ocean, or an organize ice bath!
