The ears are tender points on the head that are a sensory organ. The shape and curves of the ear are an auditory phenomenon. We attract sound into our ear’s passageway to enliven our experience with information. Synthesizing sound is made so helpful by the shape of our ears and the direct canal to the drum.

Housing so many connections of nerve endings, the ears, we can assess the connections of this feature of our bodies’ connections in the nervous system. In Ayurveda, we acknowledge the marma points (energy points) that synchronize communications to the nadis (energy channels) and the ears hold an area of focus for these. Because of the ears’ positions on the head and being a sense organ, the nature of the circulatory energy return from the ears fascinates me. Do you experience an interest in the workings of the body?

Anatomy Fascination

I enjoy this kind of exploration and find it to be another wellness tool that I can add to the holistic toolkit of mine. I love sharing these with you and want to add the ear’s correlation to your own toolkit in this post. I have become a deep admirer of the medical art by artist, Natalia of Enorasis. I am now messaging friends with her after I asked her permission to work with her art on my site. I did buy her digital prints, to support her work, but I wanted to ensure her credit for the image below. Isn’t beautiful?

This is a representation of the Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture points on the ear and the corresponding organs connect with the nervous system. In Ayurveda, the marma points connect through the lymphatic system. Movement of energy in these areas foster elimination and responds best to massage. The systems, while different, can be synergystic in action. Both the lymphatic and nervous system moves through circulation.

I love these images and want to share the marma points of the head here:

Scroll back up to the drawing of the acupuncture map and notice correlations. It can invite a direct relationship to stimulation as you consider also the position of the ear on the head. Attracting information with sound enables us to hear quickly, as information is shared with the brain. Also, the ears are connected to fascia that also connects with the sphenoid bone which lies in the center of the head, housing foramen which channels the brain stem and the optic nerves. This bone also separates the sinues from the eye and brain cavity.

What’s up with all of this anatomy?

Why does all of this matter? Understanding the nature of the ears and head can help us restore and preserve our health and wellness! I get excited about this and love studying anatomy.

Being aware of the ears and offering stimulation like a massage or gently exercise daily can foster good stimulation and lymphatic drainage from the ears and the sinuses. You are stimulating the subtle body that is in the head. This can offer a number of benefits to the way your brain works and the way your face looks!

By stimulating the ears, you can relieve held tension that you weren’t even aware of… before you did this exercise. It can offer other benefits to the digestion and all around the body with the energy return to these organs. I include an ear-pulling exercise in almost every face yoga class that I teach. It can offer a deep beginning to relaxing and feeling lighter in the body! This warm up lesson below is a great primer for warming up before doing face yoga and it includes this technique. Try it and let me know what you think!!! Leave a comment or email me at angela@beautifyfaceyoga.com.
